THE PROPOSAL is a New York Times Bestseller and I celebrated with a lot of cheese
Wednesday late afternoon, after getting up at 5 am for a cross country flight, and then sitting in a small seat for almost six hours in a plane with broken WiFi, I got to my DC hotel, and they told me they were just about to start their wine hour, which was very welcome news. I dumped my stuff in my room, walked back downstairs and got a glass of wine, and then got back in my room and flopped down on the bed to drink wine and catch up on the internet. Just then, my phone rang, and when I picked up, it was the very excited voice of my editor, asking me if I was sitting down. And then she told me that The Proposal hit the New York Times Bestseller list, and I screamed and then cried and then kicked my legs in the air and then screamed again. And then I ordered a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate and some other stuff too from room service, and I was so embarrassed about how much I ordered that when the man on the phone asked me how many people there were eating, I lied to him and said two.
Thank you so much, all of you who saw this news elsewhere and congratulated me; I can still barely believe it happened, and I am so so grateful to all of you who bought the book or told a friend to buy it or asked their library for it. And thanks to all of you who came to my events in the past few weeks! I had a great time in Texas, and at my events in Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and last night in Washington D.C. I just got to Boston and I'm so looking forward to my Saturday night event here, and then Tuesday night I'll be at Books Are Magic in Brooklyn for my final event of this tour.
Also, The Wedding Date is in the Goodreads Choice Awards Semifinals! Please go vote for it, if you're so inclined! It's included with some fantastic books, and there are other wonderful ones in other categories.
Something I've been looking forward to for years finally happened this week: Ballet Shoes, one of my favorite books from childhood, came out in ebook. "Why do you need this book in ebook, Jasmine, don't you own numerous copies of it in paper?" I can see my mother asking. Yes, yes I do, but I love having my favorite books in both e and paper, so I can have them with me no matter where I go. I've been rereading Ballet Shoes this week, and it's been making me so happy, and also I need someone to write me some book length fanfiction about Petrova Fossil during World War II and how she works on planes or flies planes and falls in love (it has to end HAPPILY though). If you haven't read this book about three orphans who live with their guardian in London and go to a dancing and drama school, and if you're the type of person who perked up by those words, you'll love this book.
I promise I'll be back with plenty of recipes over the next month as we all get ready for holiday cooking and eating, but I hope we're all watching Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on Netflix and being excited about food and cooking!
Have a great weekend, and I hope I see some of you this weekend and next week!
Jasmine
