I only talk about cookies a little bit this time
Happy Friday, friends! This newsletter has been relatively sporadic so far this year because almost every Friday this year I've either been desperately working on my book or (one beautiful Friday) on vacation. This stage of working on a book is so odd, because it's like "YAY I SENT IT IN I'M CELEBRATING" and then it comes back to you with edits and so you dive into edits and then "YAY I SENT IT IN!!!!" and then you get copy edits and do it all over again, and then you get first pass pages and ditto, and you're like omg is this book ever going to be done? But then, it's also so scary to think of it being done. Anyway, I sent in edits this week and I'm now at the YAY I SENT IT IN stage again, and have a very short time to enjoy that before copy edits come in. But it's starting to feel like a real book now, and I'm really happy with it, and excited (and also terrified, as usual) that you all will get to read it soon, and you can preorder it now! I usually take this celebration time to cook something elaborate, but I'll be out of town most of next week so I can't (any librarians who will be at PLA next week in Nashville, please say hi!) but I'm hoping to do some of that in March (I can't believe it's almost March!).
I was just telling a friend the other day about my favorite new nightgown and I just realized I haven't told you all about it: the Second Skin Nightie from Recliner! Yes, it costs too much for a nightgown, absolutely it does, but I'd had my eye on it for a while, and bought it when there was a sale (I think Thanksgiving weekend) and I am so so happy I did. If they were cheaper, I would have bought it in every color by now. The fabric is great: breathable and comfortable and stretchy without being too tight, and I'm very excited that they now have one with a built in bralette and I wish it came in more fun colors. I wish the sizes went up higher but fyi the sizing is pretty generous.
I have two book recommendations for you this week! One is a book I read on my vacation, which comes out in June, and another is a book I finished just this week. First, The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon -- this book starts out when Samiah and two other women go viral when they confront the man they didn't realize all three of them were dating. I really enjoyed the friendship that grew between the three women as the book went on, and loved Samiah's relationship with her co-worker Daniel (who, unbeknownst to Samiah, is a secret agent!) (that's not a spoiler, you find that out very early on!). Preorder this book so it gets to you in June! My second book rec for this week is part of my nonfiction binge; I've realized that when I'm deep into writing a book, it's harder for me to read fiction, so I've been reading a lot of nonfiction lately. Shout out to my friend Lisa, who is an excellent recommender of non-fiction and told me to read The Feather Thief, which I read this week. Guys, it is a book about a DEAD BIRD HEIST at a small British museum and you see the underbelly of the salmon tying world and it is FASCINATING.
I have no recipe for you this week because I've been doing shamefully little cooking in 2020 so far but I hope that changes soon (except I've made a lot of those cookies I told you about in January; fyi this is the original creator of the cookies, she has a delightful Instagram!). (I still maintain that there's no way to make four of these cookies on one regular sized cookie sheet if you make them the size they tell you to!)
Have a wonderful weekend, all!
