Holiday weekend reading...and pie
Happy Fourth of July weekend to all (or just, happy Friday if you aren't American). It's a very weird Fourth of July this year, but I hope you're all able to take some time to relax and read and eat something delicious and spend some time (even virtually) with people you love. This will be a quick newsletter since I'm also trying to do all of the above, but I wanted to give you some fun ideas for holiday reading and baking.
First, of all, a huge huge thank you to all of you: Party of Two hit the New York Times bestseller list this week, and I could not be more grateful to all of you for buying it and asking your library to request it and telling your friends about it and my other books and coming to my virtual events and everything else. Releasing a book is always both exciting and scary; releasing a book in the middle of a pandemic is deeply strange, and it's been surprisingly joyful to be able to celebrate this book virtually with so many of you. I have another virtual event coming up this week -- on Wednesday at 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific I'll be drinking wine and chatting with Jamise of spinesvines on Instagram, and it's sure to be delightful, join us if you want a happy hour break to chat about books!
Also, I wrote this piece for Time, about why people should expand their anti-racist reading to fiction. I got very emotional while writing that, and I'm so glad it's resonated with people. And I recommend all of the books I talked about in there for your holiday weekend reading! As a reminder, I have a list here on my Bookshop page of books by black authors!
Since I gave you a cake recipe last week, I thought you needed pie for this week, especially since the Fourth of July seems like a very pie kind of holiday to me. I have talked about pie many times in this newsletter before, so here is all (well, most) of the pie guidance I have:
My favorite pie dough recipe
Salted Caramel Apple pie
Pumpkin pie AND sweet potato pie
Peach and creme fraiche pie -- I usually make this with nectarines, I will almost certainly make it this weekend.
Another peach pie, and also lots of pie baking tips.
I hope you have a very delicious weekend!
